Had a sip today?

One small question keeps your summer —
and your family's — gentle.

Did you remember to ask?

You want to keep your family well this summer.
You want to take care of yourself, too.

But the days move quickly, and the question slips past.
"I'll ask later," you think — and then it's evening.

This little app is for that small forgetting,
held gently.

Where Hitokuchi began.

One summer afternoon, my grandmother wasn't well.
"I've been drinking tea," she said. And she truly had.
The amount, only, had quietly fallen short of what she'd imagined.

Not to scold, not to blame.
Just to ask, quietly, from the next room.

"Had a sip today?"
Just that. And the summer is different.
So I made this small companion.

An adult body needs around 1.2 L of water a day.

Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, through its "Drink Water for Your Health" campaign, places the daily water guideline for adults at about 1.2 litres. Tea and soup count, too — but how much we actually drink tends to drift from what we imagine.

"I'm drinking" and "it's enough" are not the same.

Tea in the morning, miso soup at lunch, barley tea at dusk.
Yes, you are drinking.

But if someone asked how much, in a day,
most of us would pause before answering.

This isn't a question to scold you.
Just — being aware of one small sip changes the shape of a summer.

Hitokuchi is three small gestures.

Not a medical device. Not a diet tool.
Just a quiet companion that asks, twice a day.

  • Asks

Once in the morning. Once at dusk. "Had a sip today?" — that's all.

  • Reveals

Tea, miso soup, barley tea — the everyday drinks of Japan, shown in a form you can see, at your own pace.

  • Connects

One purchase reaches your family. Even across distance, the same question, at the same hour.

Three gestures, in real screens.

Actual app screens. No ads. Just one breath of quiet.

Home screen. Three favourite drinks (green tea, coffee, miso soup) logged in one tap.

Log a sip in one tap

Your favourites, right at hand. Each sip quietly adds to today's gentle progress.

Weekly summary screen. A clear graph shows a week of hydration at a glance.

A week, at a glance

Your sips become a gentle graph. No scolding — just the flow, visible and calm.

Theme picker screen. Seven themes: Water, Houjicha, Sakura, Ocean, Forest, Sunset, Night.

Choose a colour for the mood

Water by default, with Houjicha, Sakura, Ocean, Forest, Sunset, Night. Quietly switch when you like.

It's only three things.

  1. Open

In the morning, open the app. Today's question is waiting, quietly.

  2. Answer

Choose one thing you drank. Tea, barley tea, miso soup — all of it, just as it is.

  3. Once more at dusk

At evening, the question returns, gently. To close the day, softly.

That's all. Hardly any setup, hardly any sign-in.

Five small promises.

  • No ads.
  • No data collection. Your records live only on your iPhone.
  • A one-time purchase. No subscription.
  • Works offline. No connection needed for the daily question.
  • Not a medical device. A small everyday companion.

Quietly, honestly, at your side.

Common questions.

Do tea and miso soup count?

Yes. Water, green tea, barley tea, miso soup — the everyday drinks of Japan are shown as they are, at your pace. Alcohol is excluded because of its diuretic effect.

How is the daily target decided?

The initial value is set gently, drawing on the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare's guideline of about 1.2 L per day for adults. Bodies and climates differ, so please treat it as one gentle reference, not a rule.

Does it work offline?

Yes. The morning and evening question work without a connection. Your records are stored only on your iPhone.

Are the notifications loud?

Only twice a day. Once in the morning, once at dusk. You can adjust the times to your liking, or turn notifications off entirely.

Does any data leave my device?

No. Your personal records live only on your iPhone. We do not collect them. We do not use them for ads.

Can Hitokuchi prevent or treat heat-related illness?

No. Hitokuchi is not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease. It is an everyday companion for reflecting on your hydration. If you feel unwell, please consult a physician or pharmacist.

With Family Sharing, can I see my family's water log?

No. Apple's Family Sharing lets up to six members of the same group share the purchase, but each person's records stay on their own device — they are not shared between family members. Everyone receives the same gentle question at the same time, and answers it at their own pace. The design is deliberate.
